While Yann Sommer is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down any time soon, as the Swiss veteran has 20 clean sheets across all competitions this season, Inter has begun to plan for the future.
During the summer of 2023, Inter signed Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich for just €5M. Sommer now leads Serie A in clean sheets with 15, three more than his closest competitor, Torino’s Vanja Milinković-Savić. While the Swiss veteran has performed at the highest levels and pulled off brilliant saves, the goalkeeper turned 35 in December and thus, Inter must begin to plan for the future in his position.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin has confirmed that Emil Audero will leave Inter at the end of the season. The 27-year-old joined Inter from Sampdoria on loan with the option to buy in the summer and has made only two appearances this season, once in the UEFA Champions League and the other in the Coppa Italia. Inter’s plan is to replace Audero with a new goalkeeper in the summer as a backup with the idea to eventually replace Sommer as the number one option.
According to Italian site FCInter1908, Inter has a shortlist of potential names.
The Nerazzurri were linked to Brazilian goalkeeper Bento Matheus Krepski, known as Bento, last summer before Sommer was signed. Inter’s management team has been keeping a careful eye on the 24-year-old and will be one to watch during the summer window. Michele Di Gregorio has been one of Serie A’s top goalkeepers and coming up in the Inter Primavera before making a move to Monza, Inter has not forgotten him. He is another name on Inter’s list. Finally, a new name has emerged: Josep Martínez, Genoa’s 25-year-old goalkeeper. Hailing from Spain and a product of the famous FC Barcelona “La Masia” academy, Martínez has impressed and could be a surprise option.
