Despite the stiff competition from numerous Serie A sides, Inter are keen on entering the pursuit for Genoa break-out star Albert Gudmundsson ahead of next season.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Nerazzurri, Roma, and Juventus are all monitoring the situation of the 26-year-old as the trio of Italian giants are enthusiastic of making a move for the Icelandic international.
So far this season, Gudmundsson has maintained an impressive run of form, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in eighteen games-played for the Rossoblu.
Coach Alberto Gilardino’s side currently find themselves in a difficult predicament as they have already lost star defender Radu Dragusin to Premier League outfits Tottenham in the winter transfer window for a lucrative fee of €30m and are not entirely willing to sell another star player in such quick succession.
However, it is difficult for Gudmundsson’s incredible run of form to not catch the eyes of the Serie A giants in preparation for next season.
He is an impressive player. What role would he play for Inter? Looking at next year’s midfield, unless they sell one of their stars Inter will have: Hakan, Barella, Mhiki, Asllani, Frattesi, Zielinski (if reports are to be believed) (and possibly Thuram’s brother). Would Gudmundsson come is as one of the strikers? Maybe he and Taremi (and Carboni) join Lautaro and Thuram?
Whatever allows me and the rest of us to not have to watch a reserve striker duo of Alexis and Arnautovic next season…one thing that cannot be overstated about any squad is being able to say there’s no deadweight in it. We already moved Agoumé, we look to be moving Sensi, but there’s still more work to be done.
As with everything unfortunately, it comes down to the finances and whether we can subsidize it (player will as well, of course).
