Inter have officially announced the arrival of Tajon Buchanan on a permanent deal.

Tajon Buchanan has arrived at Inter from Club Brugge, signing a 4.5-year contract until 2028 in a deal worth €8.5M that could rise to €10-11M depending on performance bonuses.

Following a recurring injury that Juan Cuadrado had been dealing with throughout the season, the Colombian decided to undergo surgery to his Achilles tendon. This led to Inter making an emergency signing in January, something the club had not initially planned.

Tajon Buchanan began his career quite unconventionally, heading to Syracuse University to play in their soccer program rather than play in an MLS academy. From Syracuse, Buchanan entered into his professional football career by being selected 9th overall in the MLS ‘SuperDraft’, heading to the New England Revolution. This led to Tajon Buchanan getting on the radar of the Canadian Men’s National Team, earning his first call-up in 2021, scoring his first international goal at the 2021 Gold Cup. ‘TJ’ made the move to Europe in 2022, being signed by Club Brugge- another January signing. In the 2022 calendar year, Tajon won the league with Club Brugge, made his debut in the UEFA Champions League during the 2022-23 season, and was later selected to represent Canada and the 2023 FIFA World Cup- often a starter and provided the assist to Canada’s first ever goal at a FIFA Men’s World Cup.

Buchanan began his career as a tricky winger but has since moved down the pitch and primarily now plays as a right full-back or wing-back. He is very versatile, can play on the left or the right and even in some cases has been deployed in midfield. Tajon himself has said that one of his strongest qualities is taking his man on and that he feels very comfortable in the final third of the pitch, but can also contribute defensively- likely his role at Inter.

Let’s hope Tajon is able to make an impact at Inter and help the club on their way to their goals this season!
