Inter is back in action in Serie A after a short break due to the Supercoppa Italiana and will take on Fiorentina on Sunday, January 28.

Inter will travel to Firenze to take on Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina. The Viola have thus far experienced an extremely successful season, finding themselves in fifth place, just two points behind Atalanta in fourth- but with, after the match against Inter, a game in hand over Atalanta. Although they returned home from Saudi Arabia early, after a 0-3 defeat to Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana, Fiorentina will be looking to get their first Serie A win of 2024. The Viola have experienced a difficult start to the new year, with just one win, in penalties against Bologna in the Coppa Italia, in their last four matches and failing to score in three out of those four.

In the reverse fixture back in September, Inter ran rampant at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in a 4-0 win over the visitors with a brace from Lautaro Martínez and goals from Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Marcus Thuram. The Nerazzurri have new motivation, as they have gone behind Juventus with a game in hand, due to their Supercoppa duties. At the time of writing this, Juventus has drawn Empoli and is ahead of Inter by two points, while Inter has two games in hand, including tomorrow’s match against Fiorentina.

Inter will be without Nicolò Barella and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, two of this season’s top players. The midfield duo has picked up a yellow card accumulation suspension and will both be unavailable for selection. The visitors must call on young recent additions such as Davide Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani to reclaim their spot at the top of Serie A.

According to SkySport Italy, Fiorentina is set to line up as follows (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Faraoni, Milenković, Ranieri, Parisi; Arthur, Duncan; Ikoné, Bonaventura, Sottil; Beltran.

According to SkySport Italy, Inter is set to line up as follows (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, de Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Frattesti, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Thuram, Lautaro Martínez.

Fiorentina-Inter will kick off on Sunday, January 28 at 20:45 CET / 14:45 EST.
