Inter will host Atalanta at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Serie A.
Due to Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana commitments back in January, Inter-Atalanta was postponed and that match has finally arrived- Inter’s game-in-hand! Following an emphatic 4-0 victory away at Lecce over the past weekend using nearly an entire starting XI of non-starters, Inter’s confidence continues to beam as the Nerazzurri have now won all ten of their matches in 2024. Inter have not lost a match against Atalanta in all competitions since 2018, having won six and drawn five since. Based on the scorelines of previous matches, Inter-Atalanta is always a close match. The winning side almost always wins by a margin of just one goal and most often, neither side keeps a clean sheet. Inter’s defence and clean-sheet record is among the best in Europe this season and with Yann Sommer back from injury, the Swiss goalkeeper will be looking to extend this statistic.
Atalanta, with a game in hand currently, sit in fifth place, just two points behind Bologna who occupy the final Champions League spot at the moment. Roma is picking up form under new manager Daniele De Rossi and is coming within Champions League range, just two points behind Atalanta. The race for that fourth-place finish will be a thrilling end to the 2023-2024 season. Atalanta themselves have been in incredible form as of late with just one loss and two draws, one of which came over the past weekend in a 1-1 draw against AC Milan, since the beginning of December. Standout performers this season for Atalanta have been Charles De Ketelaere with six goals and six assists, Ademola Lookman with seven goals and three assists and Teun Kopmeiners with eight goals and three assists.
According to SkySport Italy, Inter is expected to line up as follows (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, de Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Arnautović, Lautaro Martínez. Juan Cuadrado, Stefano Sensi, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram are all ruled out through injury.
