In preparation for the 2024/2025 season, Inter has identified two free agents to recruit- and these two players are inching closer to joining the Nerazzurri in July 2024.
Mehdi Taremi was a player Inter had considered during the summer of 2023. The Iranian forward was also on the radar of AC Milan, but a move never materialized and the veteran forward remained at FC Porto.
Taremi never left Inter’s sights. As previously reported, Inter has reached a verbal agreement with the 31-year-old forward to join as a free agent in July 2024. Mehdi Taremi is currently representing Iran at the Asian Cup and has reached the semi-finals. SkySport Italy transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio reported during the last days of January that the deal is likely to be closed after the Asian Cup. Contacts between Taremi’s entourage and Inter executives have been as frequent as daily and an agreement for a 2-year deal with the option for a third has been reached.
While Inter has been focusing on Mehdi Taremi, they have also been multi-tasking.
Piotr Zieliński is out of contract with Napoli in June 2024 and is set to accompany Taremi in joining Inter as a free agent in July. In recent weeks, the situation has escalated between the midfielder and Napoli. After rumours and news over the past couple of months that Inter were very interested in Zieliński and there was no agreement to extend his contract with Napoli, club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has made the decision to exclude the Polish international from Napoli’s UEFA Champions League list.
Following this decision, Zieliński’s father himself stated that his son would not be renewing his contract with Napoli- but he will likely be continuing his career in Italy. Today, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano announced that Inter is closing in on a verbal agreement with the 29-year-old and it is up to the final details to be sorted before a pre-contract can be signed.
Inter plans to complete the paperwork to sign both Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zieliński as free agents in the summer by the end of this month, February.
I’m really worried about the Iranian forward deal, he had a good start in Asian Cup, but as he played more less he produced, my guess is he is way past his prime. I personally make his annual salary less than 3M.
