Inter host Salernitana at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A on Friday, February 19.

A rare early match for the Nerazzurri, but this Serie A clash is scheduled ahead due to UEFA Champions League duties the following week. Inter will face 20th-placed Salernitana and new manager Fabio Liverani on Friday.

Just days before Filippo Inzaghi was set to face his brother, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side, the legendary forward was relieved of his duties as the Granata found themselves rock-bottom of Serie A. Just winning one game out of their last 12, Salernitana is in a very difficult moment and will look to pull off an upset against the current league leaders. In the January transfer window, big-name defenders Jérome Boateng and Konstantinos Manolas were brought in, looking to solidify the defence and extend their stay in Italy’s top flight. Furthermore, several young players were signed on loan from clubs around Serie A including Napoli’s Alessandro Zanoli, Lazio’s Toma Bašić and AC Milan’s Marco Pellegrino.

Inter is flying. The Nerazzurri are now seven points clear of second-placed Juventus and still have a game in hand. Showing no signs of slowing down, now they will face the last-placed team in Serie A. Squad rotation is expected ahead of a UEFA Champions League round of 16 week, but Simone Inzaghi’s squad is fully focused on Friday and all their effort will go towards maintaining their lead in the league on the quest for the second star.

According to SkySport Italy, Inter is expected to line up as follows (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, de Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Arnautović, Thuram. Francesco Acerbi is ruled out through injury, but Davide Frattesi is back available for selection.

According to SkySport Italy, Salernitana is expected to line up as follows (4-3-1-2): Ochoa; Sambia, Manolas, Pellegrino, Zanoli; Bašić, Coulibaly, Maggiore; Candreva; Weissman, Dia.

Inter-Salernitana is set to kick off at 21:00 CET / 15:00 EST on Friday, February 16.
