The first international break of the year is upon us! It’s time to take a closer look at which Inter players have been called up for their respective national teams, as well as all the fixtures.
We start with Italy, where Nicolò Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, Matteo Darmian, Federico Dimarco and Davide Frattesi have all been called up for the upcoming games. Francesco Acerbi was initially also called up, however returned to Milan and was replaced by Gianluca Mancini due to the racism allegations. The Azzurri are set to play two friendlies in the USA, first against Venezuela on Thursday, March 21 at 22:00 CET/17:00 EST, before facing Ecuador on Sunday, March 24 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST.
Italy’s U21 side includes three Inter loanees, with Gaetano Oristanio, Francesco Pio Esposito and Mattia Zanotti all getting the call up. They will be facing Latvia U21 on Friday, March 22 at 18:15 CET/ 13:15 EST and Turkey U21 on Tuesday, March 26 also at 18:15 CET/ 13:15 EST in their quest to qualify for the U21 EURO’s.
Luca Di Maggio, from Inter’s Primavera side, received the call up to represent Italy U19. They are looking to defend their EURO U19 title and start by qualifying for July’s tournament. First up was a game against Scotland, which took place on Wednesday, March 20 and ended with a 3-1 victory. The remaining two games will be against the Czech Republic on Saturday, March 23 at 16:30 CET/11:30 EST and against Georgia on Tuesday, March 26 at 14:30 CET/9:30 EST.
Alexis Sánchez has been called up for his home country Chile, who will play two friendlies in Europe. On Friday, March 22 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST against Albania as well as France on Tuesday, March 26 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST.
The Netherlands also have two friendlies scheduled and both Denzel Dumfries and Stefan De Vrij have been called up to the Oranjes. They will face Scotland on Friday, March 22 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST and Germany on Tuesday, March 26 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST.
Kristjan Asllani will play out two friendly meetings with his country Albania, first against Chile on Friday, March 22 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST before playing against Sweden on Monday, March 25 at 19:00 CET/14:00 EST.
Switzerland & Yann Sommer are about to play two friendly encounters against Denmark on Saturday, March 23 at 20:00 CET/15:00 EST and against Ireland on Tuesday, March 26 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST.
The French national team are going to play two friendlies in their country, with both Benjamin Pavard and Marcus Thuram being called up. They will go up against Germany on Saturday, March 23 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST and Chile on Tuesday, March 26 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST.
Argentina will face El Salvador on Friday night, March 22 at 1:00 CET/20:00 EST and Costa Rica on Tuesday night, March 26 at 3:50 CET/22:50 EST in two friendly matches. Lautaro Martínez and Inter loanee Valentín Carboni have both been selected for their country.
Turkey and captain Hakan Çalhanoğlu have two friendlies on the calendar, one against Hungary on Friday, March 22 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST and one against Austria on Tuesday, March 26 at 20:45 CET/15:45 EST.
Canada have a CONCACAF Nations League encounter against Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, March 23 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST. Tajon Buchanan was called up for his home country for the game.
Inter Primavera player Aleksandar Stanković will captain Serbia’s U19 side in their quest to qualify for EURO U19. They will face Portugal U19 on Saturday, March 23 at 21:00 CET/16:00 EST as well as Greece U19 on Tuesday, March 26 at 16:00 CET/11:00 EST.
Inter loanee Nikola Iliev was called up to Bulgaria’s U21 side, as they face Poland U21 on Tuesday, March 26 at 15:00 CET/10:00 EST in a EURO U21 qualification game.
Another Inter loanee selected for their country is Jan Żuberek, who will play for Poland’s U20 side. They will play friendlies against England on Friday, March 22 at 17:45 CET/12:45 EST and against Romania on Tuesday, March 26 at 18:00 CET/13:00 EST.
