Nerazzurri skipper Lautaro Martinez continues to strengthen his claim of being considered a world-class number nine as the Argentine snatched his 124th goal for Inter at the stadio Artemio Franchi to seize all three points against Fiorentina.

The 26 year-old’s superb header from the near-post in courtesy of a sublime delivery from promising midfielder Kristjan Asllani in the 14th minute of play served as the game-winning goal that enabled Inter to leap a point above Juventus whilst possessing a game-in hand over the Bianconeri.

Martinez’s goal on Tuscan soil has extended his magnificent run of form to 19 goals and two assists in 19 games-played in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, making him the top-flight Italian league’s top goal-scorer thus far, as Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic sits in second with seven goals fewer.

The game-winning goal over coach Vincenzo Italiano’s side marked Martinez’s 124th goal for the Beneamata, surpassing the 123 goal-tally of Nerazzurri legend Christian Vieri, and is now level with former team-mate Mauro Icardi in eighth within Inter’s all-time goal-scorer chart.
